EHYT endorses the fundamental principles that currently underpin Finland’s public policy on drugs: preventing first time-time use whilst ensuring access to treatment and support for all. For us, it is important that experimentation with illegal drugs does not lead to disproportionate consequences that blight the remainder of people’s lives. All activities undertaken by the Finnish authorities should focus on education and cessation rather than sanctions. A particular challenge is the growing use of cannabis, associated with domestic cultivation.
